Bonnie House Apartments

The lobby of this tired sixty-year-old brick cooperative apartment building is about 7’ below grade, which makes entry to the building mean and unpleasant.  In renovating the building’s public spaces the design opens the lobby up to the street level as much as possible, and leads the eye down with natural light by opening a vista through the back of the building; widening the stairs gives the entry a more gracious, comfortable feel.  Light colored stone brightens the space, folding outside to frame the lobby with new panels that announce the building’s entry while dressing up the worn brickwork.  A new canvas canopy leads the eye downward and folds into the lobby ceiling design.  Additional work included corridor refurbishment and elevator redesign.  All work was done to exacting LEED-comparable standards, using recycled materials, low-VOC solvents, low-energy lighting and renewable paneling.
